There’s something magical about a first birthday — and even more so when it’s celebrated on a warm spring day in Charleston. Recently, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful milestone for dear friends, capturing everything from heartfelt family moments to playful adventures in the gardens of Hampton Park.
The perfect family portrait location in Charleston, SC
Hampton Park is a masterpiece of outdoor greenery, a dream for any family photographer. With its lush gardens, open grassy fields, and beautiful natural light, it offers the perfect backdrop for both posed portraits and playful candid moments. For this event, we warmed up with some candids of the guests arriving and warm greetings, mixing in a couple classic family photos — including sweet pictures with the grandparents — before letting the day unfold naturally. The vibrant spring blooms made every image feel warm, colorful, and timeless.
A personal connection that made this session even more special
This session was particularly close to my heart because it was for good friends, one of whom I knew from the College of Charleston sailing team. Being trusted to capture such an important milestone for people you care about adds an extra layer of meaning to every click of the shutter. It was easy for everyone to relax and be themselves, allowing for genuine, heartfelt moments that truly reflected their personalities and relationships.
