Portraits of Grace: A Charleston Family Session Celebrating Three Generations of Remarkable Women
How I helped this remarkable mom capture updated family portraits at a critical juncture in their lives.
This was such a fun session that my dear friend and fellow photographer, Laura Huffman, invited me to join.
Meghan knew that her wedding location at Old Wide Awake Plantation would be the perfect spot for the whole family to do their portraits this year and was able to get permission from the property manager for a private session. She is a local hair and makeup artist in Charleston, and has such an amazing eye for putting together perfectly coordinating outfits for the whole family!
This session featured three generations of strong, confident women - Meghan’s mother and her two lovely daughters. Plus the two most important men in her life - her husband and her father.
First, we did some warm-ups and family portraits on the ivy-covered steps of the great house. Meghan’s youngest daughter was not feeling into pictures at first, but she warmed up by the end as we played games and got more comfortable. Then we wandered over to the nearby grassy field and captured a few more fun images in front of the pond and horse fences.
What makes this session truly special is that Meghan’s niece joined as well, who was living temporarily with them at the time. Also, Meghan’s mother was soon to undergo a medical procedure that might result in some life changes, so it was vital to capture some lasting memories of the family in their full, present-day glory.
